What is 靈氣 REIKI

WHAT’S THERE NOT TO LOVE ABOUT REIKI?

Reiki is a powerful form of spiritual and energetic healing that originated in Japan and promotes healing and transformation. Ever since it left its ancestral homelands, this hands on (and off) healing modality has over a million practitioners world-wide.

For myself, whether I’m serving as a conduit on behalf of my client or simply being a recipient of it, I’m always amazed and grateful for how relaxed and yummy I feel after a Reiki session! Offering a session most of the time feels like getting a session myself, so regardless of which end of the Reiki flow I’m at, I come out feeling mighty fine!

So, what is 靈氣 Reiki?

In essence, Reiki is divine Source energy channeled through the practitioner to the client who then receives the energy like a spark that ignites the client’s natural healing abilities. In this way, a Reiki practitioner assists the client in healing themselves. In other words, we help you heal yourself!

Reiki 靈氣 is a Japanese hands-on healing art that supports the body, mind, and spirit in returning to balance. In 1922, Usui Mikao, fondly known as Usui Sensei, rediscovered this healing method during a period of fasting, meditation and austerity practice on Kurama Yama (Mount Kurama) in Japan. There, he experienced a profound spiritual revelation that awakened in him the ability to heal, and from this came his method: Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryōhō — the Usui Reiki Healing Method for the Improvement of Body and Mind.

The word Reiki 靈氣 is rich in meaning. Rei 靈 may be understood as “sacred,” “mysterious,” or “miraculous,” while ki 氣 refers to life force or invisible energy. Together, Reiki can be understood as sacred life force energy or spiritually guided energy. In Japan, the word itself predates Usui Sensei and has long carried associations with sacred presence, numinous atmosphere, a spiritually charged feeling or aura, or unseen spiritual power.

According to Japanese author and Reiki Dai-Shihan, Masaki Nishina, “The word Reiki 靈氣 can be found in the common Japanese dictionary as ‘the sacred energy, filling the deep forest,’” which I deeply resonate with as I find the deep cedar forests and sacred waterways of the mountains like Mt Shasta as an ideal training ground for initiates who seek to learn and train in the ways of Reiki 靈氣.

At its essence, Reiki is both a healing practice and a spiritual path. It invites the body into deep relaxation, allowing stress to soften, the nervous system to settle, and the natural healing intelligence of the body to awaken. Most people leave a Reiki session feeling lighter, calmer, and more deeply connected to themselves.

In a world that so often overwhelms the spirit,
Reiki 靈氣 can be a powerful tool for healing and transformation and offers something simple and profound:
a return to stillness, balance, and self.

And finally, in the words of Shakyamuni Buddha…

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

That said… Shakyamuni Buddha would insist that
you give Reiki a twirl and decide for yourself!
